The Big Debate- Should You or Should You NOT Wear White After Labor Day
The Big Debate- Should You or Should You NOT Wear White After Labor Day
RULES, RULES, RULES!!!
Here are a FEW rules that have been embedded in my brain from family members and friends since childhood:
NEVER wear brown and black together
NEVER wear white after Labor Day
NEVER wear hosiery with open toed shoes
NEVER wear blacks that do NOT match
Did I just type NEVER four times? Yikes!!
I, personally, function BETTER with guidelines. Some RULES are made to be broken, especially in creative ways.
I say wear white after Labor Day!!! I do- with a little twist:
Wear whites in winter worthy fabrications e.g. wool. Coco Chanel did it best-!
Want to be a stand out at a holiday party? Skip the “LBD” and don a “WWD” instead. A Winter White Dress will make you the belle of the ball.
If the mercury is still over 80 degrees, go for it!
Read this interesting piece from Time magazine “Why We Can’t Wear White after Labor Day” . It is very enlightening the origination, the sacredness, and why this RULE remains steadfast to this day.
I wear white after Labor Day. I love something classy like the Coco Chanel and the WWD. I also think the Florida beach lifestyle gives us a little more freedom with what we wear year round.
Thanks for commenting Marie. I definitely wear white after Labor Day. I use the over 80 degrees guideline.

I’ve always been aware of this rule, but never followed it! :D There are so many factors to consider, such as where you live, your social or work environment, and of course, the climate. I’d guess that people in Florida and Arizona (where I live) wear white year-round, while city-dwellers in SF, NY, and Chicago might not own a single pair of white shoes or pants.
Personally, I don’t wear white at all – it looks awful on me! I prefer a creamy ivory, and yes, I do wear it year-round.
Thanks for your comments. I leave in Florida so I use the if it is over 80 degrees I still wear my white shorts and jeans. I do not wear white around my face. I am a Bright Spring. Have you ever had a color analysis?
